Microsoft Word Tips and Tricks

General Information

This class assumes that you have some working knowledge of Microsoft Word. You may feel that you know all about Microsoft Word, but you are bound to find many tips and tricks that you didn't know about in this class. If you know of a trick that is not included here, please use the form at the end of this class to tell us about it. We will gladly give you credit for your tip. These tips are for Microsoft Word 2000 and above. You may find that some tips will work in one version, but not the other.

Whatever version of Microsoft Word you have, it is important to keep up with your office updates. Unlike your Windows operating system updates that are automatic; you have to initiate your office updates. These updates are important for security as well as functionality issues. Go to “Help” on the menu and select “Office on the Web”. If you have trouble downloading the updates, you can order the updates on CD. You can also download templates, clip art, fun things, add-ins and many other extras.

You can download viewers for all of the Office products. If someone sends you a PowerPoint or an Excel and you don't have that product, you can download a viewer for it, free from Microsoft.

In this class, I will use quotes “File” to denote an actual object in the office Application. I will use > to show you navigation paths to follow, such as “File” > “Save”, to tell you to click on “File” on the top menu bar and then select “Save”.

You can bookmark this class, or individual pages and use them as a reference. There are no quizzes or tests. It does not matter how often you access this class.
