Job Description:
Summer Scholars is a community-based literacy program serving elementary
school age children in NE Denver who are reading below grade level. Our
program includes a summer school and recreation program at multiple
elementary schools.
Summer Scholars is currently recruiting exceptional teachers for the 2008
summer session, June 16th July 25th, 2008. Classes are held daily (Monday
through Friday). Teachers are expected to be there from 8:00 AM 12:00 PM.
Summer Program is located in these schools: Ashley, Barrett, Columbine, Dora
Moore, Fairmont, Garden Place, Gilpin, Greenlee, Harrington, Mitchell,
Montclair, Palmer, Park Hill, Philips, Smith, Swansea, Whittier and
Wyatt-Edison.
Job Requirements
Team teach a class of 25 students who are reading below grade level
Follow the schedule and skills-based focus identified by Summer Scholars
Set goals for individual students based on DIBELS assessment data, or
other assessment information (i.e. DRA, QRI). If you have had training in
DIBELS, please note that in the training section of the application.
Place students in groups according to assessment information, and plan
guided reading instruction for the groups accordingly
Plan and implement instruction for reading intervention groups, guided
reading, and reading mini-lessons/conference
Supervise paraprofessional, classroom assistants; and direct/oversee
small
group activities they facilitate
Use the curriculum provided by Summer Scholars
Conduct Family Visits and participate in a school-wide family event
designed to enhance literacy
Maintain student records and participate in evaluation process
Communicate with the Summer Scholars and recreation staff
Training is a requirement of employment.
Minimum Requirements
1) Current teachers license 4) In good standing
with Denver Public Schools
2) Elementary school experience 5) In good standing with Summer Scholars
3) Ability to work the entire 6 week session 6) Attendance at mandatory
training sessions
Compensation
Direct instruction for 15 hrs per week at $27.50/hr. Instructional planning,
classroom set-up, training and family visits at $19.60/hr. Payroll will be
administered by Denver Public Schools on the summer schedule.
