Job Description:
Summer Scholars is seeking teens and others with strong academic skills, who
are friendly, self-motivated, and who enjoy children. Summer Scholars is a
six week literacy program for elementary students who need additional
academic support to help them become successful learners. Classroom
Assistants will work with young children both in small groups and
individually, under teacher supervision, concentrating on reading and
writing skills. Please note that the hiring process for Summer Scholars
Classroom Assistants is very competitive.
 
Program dates and hours for classroom assistants are June 16 to July 25,
2008, 8:15 to 11:45 AM, Monday through Friday.
 
Position Description
 Work under the direction of classroom teachers
 Work with small groups and individual students
 Assist with classroom set-up and clean up
 Assist with snacks
 Maintain student discipline within groups
 Serve as responsible role model for students
 Training is a requirement of employment
 
 
Minimum Requirements
 Must be at least 15 years old
 Posses strong academic skills particularly in reading and writing
 In good standing with Summer Scholars
 Attendance at all training sessions
 
 
Compensation
New Classroom Assistants will be paid $7.00/hr and returning Classroom
Assistants will be paid $7.35/hr
