Job Description:
Summer Scholars is a community-based literacy program serving elementary
age children in Northeast Denver who are reading below grade level. Our
program includes a summer school and recreation program at multiple
elementary schools. Summer Scholars is currently recruiting exceptional
paraprofessionals for the 2008 session. Classes are held daily, Monday
through Friday 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM, June 16th to July 25th, 2008.
Paraprofessionals are expected to be there from 8:15 AM  11:45 AM.
Additional hours may be offered to some paraprofessionals who will be asked
to assist with breakfast and/or lunch. That will be determined at a later
date. Please note that the hiring process for Summer Scholars
paraprofessionals is very competitive.
 
The summer program is located in these schools: Ashley, Barrett, Columbine,
Dora Moore, Fairmont, Garden Place, Gilpin, Greenlee, Hallett, Harrington,
Mitchell, Montclair, Palmer, Park Hill, Philips, Smith, Swansea, Whittier
and Wyatt-Edison.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Job Requirements
 Assist teachers in implementing literacy instruction by working in small
groups and individual students at the teachers direction
 Provide general classroom support
 Assist the teachers in maintaining and submitting written student records
 Assist teachers in conducting evaluations
 Participate in Family Visits and the Family Literacy event
 Assist teachers in supervising classroom assistants
 Take daily attendance
 Training is a requirement of employment
 
Minimum Requirements
1) Elementary school experience 4) In good standing with Denver public
Schools
2) Ability to work the entire 6 week session 5) In good standing with
Summer Scholars
3) Attendance at mandatory training sessions (Experience and training in
literacy instruction is a plus)
 
Compensation
Direct instruction at $12.00/hr for 17.5 hrs a week (except for the July 4th
holiday week). Additional compensation will be available for classroom
set-up, training, at the same hourly rate. Compensation for family visits
will be $19.60 a visit (non-school) or $19.60/hr at school.
