Job Description:
Summer Scholars is a community-based literacy program serving elementary
school age children in NE Denver who are reading and writing below grade
level and their parents whose first language is not English. The adult
English language program is focused on building English oral language skills
that increase parents abilities to help their children succeed in school.
Classes are held daily (Monday through Friday), June 16 to July 26, 2008.
Classes will be held within the hours of 8:30 am  11:30 AM. Child care
introduces children (birth to 5 years) to basic English language skills and
cooperative play in a safe environment.
 
Summer Scholars family literacy program is located in these schools:
Ashley, Columbine, Dora Moore, Gilpin, Hallett, Harrington, Montclair,
Swansea, and Whittier.
Job Requirements
 Participate in Summer Scholars training and coaching
 Complete the AIMS instruction program (arranged and paid for by Summer
Scholars)
 Have personal English skills in vocabulary and grammar sufficient to serve
as a model of language use
 Experience teaching preschool
 Support the plans of the lead child care provider in any way requested
 Clear a state fingerprint background check
 Training is a requirement of employment
Minimum Requirements
 Experience teaching preschool-aged children
 Strong personal English skills
 In good standing with Denver Public Schools and Summer Scholars
 Attendance at mandatory training sessions
 Minimum age requirement is 15 years
Compensation
ECE Assistant Instructors will be paid $7.00 to 10.00/hr for direct
instruction for up to 15 hours of instruction a week. Training and meetings
are also included if pre-approved.
