Job Description:
Summer Scholars is a community-based literacy program serving elementary
school age children in NE Denver who are reading and writing below grade
level and their parents whose first language is not English. The adult
English language program is focused on building English oral language skills
that increase parents abilities to help their children succeed in school.
Summer Scholars is currently recruiting exceptional teachers for the 2008
summer program. Classes are held daily for 6 weeks  June 16 to July 25,
2008. Classes will be held within the hours of 8:30 am  11:30 AM.
 
Summer Scholars family literacy program is located in these schools:
Ashley, Columbine, Dora Moore, Gilpin, Hallett, Harrington, Montclair,
Swansea, and Whittier.
 
Job Requirements
 Participate in Summer Scholars training and coaching, including AIMS
training
 Have personal English skills in vocabulary and grammar sufficient to serve
as a model of language use
 Experience teaching adults
 Conduct classes adhering to the AIMS method
 Use the curriculum provided by Summer Scholars, including PACT time
 Maintain student records and participate in evaluation process
 Communicate with the Summer Scholars Site Coordinator and Summer Scholars
staff
 Training is a requirement of employment.
 
Minimum Requirements
 Experience teaching adults
 In good standing with Denver Public Schools and Summer Scholars
 Attendance at mandatory training sessions
 Strong personal English skills
Compensation
Teachers will be paid $20.00 hr for direct instruction for up to 15 hours of
instruction a week, depending upon the school assignment. Training and
planning is also included if pre-approved. Teachers may be paid for 1 hour
of planning per class.
