About Achievement First:
Achievement First is a charter school management organization started in
July 2003 by the leaders of Amistad Academy, a high performing charter
school in New Haven, CT. A non-profit, 501 (c)(3) organization, Achievement
First is creating a network of achievement-gap closing charter schools in
Connecticut and New York to bring to scale the dramatic, life changing
student achievement results produced at Amistad Academy. Achievement First
currently operates 12 schools in both NY and CT. Over the next decade,
Achievement First will grow to support 25 schools serving over 7,000

Summary:
The Assistant will support the co-CEO/President of Achievement First. This
is an opportunity to work closely with the leader of a growing nonprofit
that is recognized as a top model charter school management organization.
The ideal candidate will possess exceptional multi-tasking abilities,
excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be extraordinarily
self-directed.
 
Responsibilities of the Assistant will include:
o Event planning-- Design, plan, coordinate, and lead the execution of the
logistics, operations, and communications for staff trainings, meetings,
interview weekends, retreats and conferences.
 
o Scheduling and administrative support-- Coordinate and schedule the
co-CEO!&s calendar, make travel arrangements, process mileage and credit
card reimbursements, photocopy/print documents, check voicemail/e-mail and
create summaries, order books and supplies, schedule and prepare materials
for conference calls and meetings.
 
o Writing and communication-- Draft and proofread documents to ensure
accurate and effective communication, maintain daily e-mail and phone
correspondences.
 
o Office management-- Share office manager responsibilities, order and take
inventory of office supplies, process mail, set-up and oversee use of A/V
equipment, order catering for and plan in-office events, maintain a warm
office aesthetic, and greet frequent visitors.
 
o Research, data analysis and project management-- Complete complex projects
as identified to support the co-CEO.
 
Skills and Characteristics:


O Excellent writing and proof-reading skills

O Strong verbal communication skills

O Detail-oriented and highly organized

O Highly motivated and capable of seeing projects through individually from
beginning to end

O Solid technical skills and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel,
PowerPoint and Publisher and with Adobe Acrobat

O Interest in performing a critical support role while learning in a
fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment

O Flexible, able to work autonomously as well as take direction as needed

O Solid analytical, communication, influencing and negotiating skills

O Results-oriented individual !V a flexible thinker willing to do
!'whatever it takes!(

O Belief in the Achievement First mission and educational model

O Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and
!'roll-up-my-sleeves!( attitude

O Experience in education helpful but not required

O Bachelor!&s degree from a competitive college or university

Biography of the co-CEO/President
Dacia Toll led the founding team of Amistad Academy in New Haven, CT and
served as the school!&s director from its founding in 1999 until July 2005.
Under Dacia!&s leadership, Amistad Academy consistently produced student
performance results that tripled the New Haven Public Schools!& average and
that topped Greenwich and Westport averages in some subjects. Prior to
Amistad Academy, Dacia worked as a teacher, lawyer, and management
consultant, providing support for community organizations on issues of
strategic management and program design. She also worked on school reform at
the U.S. Department of Education and with McKinsey management consultants.
After graduating from the University of North Carolina, Dacia studied at
Oxford University on a Rhodes Scholarship. She received her J.D. from Yale
Law School shortly before launching Amistad Academy.
 
 
Compensation
Salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience.
