Achievement First is a charter school management organization started in
July 2003 by the leaders of Amistad Academy, a high performing charter
school in New Haven, CT. A non-profit, 501 (c)(3) organization, Achievement
First is creating a network of achievement-gap closing charter schools in
Connecticut and New York to bring to scale the dramatic, life changing
student achievement results produced at Amistad Academy. Achievement First
currently operates 12 schools in both NY and CT. Over the next decade,
Achievement First will grow to support 25 schools serving over 7,000

Summary
The Office Coordinator is the face of the Achievement First campus and a key
member of the schools Operations Team. The Office Coordinator will work
closely with the School Registrar and School Manager, and will report to the
School Manager.
The ideal candidate is a highly personable, systematic and frighteningly
organized worker-bee, who deeply believes in the Achievement First school
model and is committed to helping build a network of achievement gap-closing
schools. He or she will also have a results-oriented, entrepreneurial work
ethic that is, a whatever it
takes attitude with a willingness to take
on tasks that may not perfectly match this job description.
Specific job responsibilities will include:
Main Office Management
Operate a welcoming and efficient main office; respond to inquiries and
requests from students, staff, and families whether made in person, by
phone, or by email -- in a timely manner.
Stock supplies, maintain equipment, answer phones, receive and distribute
mail and shipments, welcome visitors, and manage student issues (such as
processing late arrivals and following-up with families of absent students).
Support the school staff. Assist the School Manager with coordination of
school events.
Support the production and distribution of the weekly Parent/Guardian
Memo, as well as any memos to the school staff.
Student Records and Data
Use Achievement Firsts Student Information System (SIS) to ensure
that
teachers have recorded their students daily attendance. Track
tardiness/early dismissals.
Use the SIS to maintain and update all student contact/demographic
information.
School Administration
Serve as the right-hand person to the School Manager, assuming additional
tasks and responsibilities as needed.
Occasionally assist with the less glamorous aspects of school
administration, such as handling sick students, waiting with a child who has
not been picked up from school, etc.
Characteristics, Knowledge and Skills
Very strong interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills
Strong organizational skills
The desire and capacity to join the team of a start-up, nonprofit
organization
Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, highly disciplined, but
sometimes unpredictable school environment
Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and
roll-up-my-sleeves attitude
Comfortable being in service to the schools leadership and
teaching
staff
Belief in the Achievement First mission and educational model
Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and knowledge of databases
Education and Experience
Bachelors degree from a competitive college or university
Previous office management/administrative experience
Compensation
