Job Description:
The American Civil Liberties Union of Florida is seeking a Development
Officer.
 
The Development Officer is a new position in a growing Development
Department. Working under the direction of the ACLU of Floridas Senior
Director of Development and in conjunction with the Capital Campaign
Director, the Development Officer will work closely with the Senior Director
of Development and Executive leadership to identify, cultivate and solicit
donors for annual gifts as well as promote and solicit a variety of planned
gift options among ACLU supporters in the state of Florida.
 
The ACLU of Florida and its Foundation operate jointly as non-profit public
interest organizations devoted to protecting civil rights and civil
liberties. Its staff and many volunteers work in a fast-paced, friendly, and
professional office environment.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Manage Annual Fund Donors: Working with annual fund donors, develop
strategies to increase their giving to major gift levels. This may include
face-to-face solicitations, writing personal notes, thank you calls, etc.
Working directly with donors and prospects, schedule appointments for the
Executive Director, and other solicitors as necessary.
 
Manage planned giving program: Develop and implement an annual work plan of
planned giving goals, strategies, and timeline designed to cultivate and
solicit significant support. Respond to donor inquiries and reach out to
prospects. Coordinate activities of planned giving recognition program,
known as the DeSilver Society, to cultivate and recognize current and
potential planned giving donors. Familiarize donors, key staff, board, and
volunteers with planned giving opportunities. Serve as resource person for
development staff. Provide training to staff, board, and volunteers to
prepare them to discuss and promote planned giving options.
 
Maintain records on donors and prospects: Maintain accurate and up-to-date
information on activities, donors, and prospects using our fundraising
database. Provide regular gift reports to ACLU of Floridas Senior Director
of Development and Executive Director.
 
Assist the ACLU of Floridas Development Department in other duties as
assigned.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
 
 At least three years of demonstrated success in fundraising with
non-profit, advocacy or other community-based groups is required.
 
 At ease with complex information, able to calculate and explain
complicated financial data. Knowledge of gift and estate planning, and
knowledge of various planned giving and endowment vehicles is helpful.
 
 Superior talent in attention to detail with the ability to plan programs,
evaluate progress and monitor expenses. Excellent organization and time
management skills with strong ability to manage responsibilities
independently and follow through on all assignments and projects.
 
 Effective interpersonal and communication abilities, especially listening
skills for discerning donors interests and concerns. The ability to
communicate effectively and respectfully on the phone and in person with
donors, Board members, volunteers, staff, and the general public. A
commitment to the confidentiality of donor records.
 
 Demonstrated ability to write clearly and precisely. Strength in
proofreading and visual review. Excellent office and computer skills,
including strong experience in database management, Word and Excel.

 Ability and willingness to work occasional overtime, irregular hours, and
considerable travel.

Starting salary will be set based on experience and qualifications. Benefits
