Volunteer and Family Services Coordinator
Full Time Staff Position
Reports to: Director of Volunteers and Family Services
Start Date: ASAP. June 2008
Supervises: AmeriCorps Volunteer Liaison
Department: Volunteers and Family Services
Basic Function: This full-time position has the responsibility of
supporting, coordinating, and assisting the Volunteer Services Program and
the Family Services Program.
Hours of Work: Minimum 40 hours per week schedule varies; weekend and
evenings included when necessary
Key Responsibilities:
Volunteer Services
Support the Director of Volunteers and Family Services in creating,
developing, implementing and
evaluating a comprehensive Volunteer Program to meet the needs of the
affiliate
o Respond daily to inquires regarding volunteer opportunities from
individuals and groups
o Manage volunteer schedule for construction and affiliate needs
o Collaborate with ReStore VISTA on ReStore volunteer needs, scheduling,
policies and procedures.
o Recruit new volunteers according to the communicated needs of the
affiliate
 Direct interested volunteers to Committee Chairs or appropriate
staff member
o Facilitate and coordinate monthly volunteer orientation sessions
o Collaborate in the design of a volunteer retention plan including;
orientation, policies and procedures, materials and manual and evaluation of
volunteer experience
o Work with Construction Manager and crew leaders to track volunteer
attendance
o Assist in the coordination of volunteer special events including, but not
limited to, Global Village Builds, Women Builds, Collegiate Challenge Builds
o Assist in the development and implementation of a Volunteer Recognition
Program; including special events, thank you-s, electronic correspondence
o Coordinate and publish monthly volunteer electronic newsletter.
Family Services
Support the Director of Volunteers and Family Services in developing,
implementing and evaluating a Family Services Program that meets the needs
of the affiliate
o Support HomeWorks, home buyer workshop series planning, development, and
facilitation
o Coordinate effective communication system with homeowners
o Provide continuing support for new and existing homeowners
o Track homeowner sweat equity and develop improved, effective system for
future tracking
o Research, edit and revise relevant documents as needed
o Assist in tracking system and administrative needs for application process
o Assist in communication with applicant families particularly with
Settlement process
o Attend monthly Family Services Committee meetings
o Identify and support key community partnerships
o Coordinate and publish quarterly homeowner print newsletter
Affiliate Responsibilities
Attend Monthly Staff meeting, weekly department meeting and weekly
construction meeting
Assist with other affiliate activities as necessary and approved by the
Director of Volunteers and Family Services
Develop resources and partnerships with Community Resources
Qualifications:
Experience working with and managing both individual and large groups of
volunteers
Demonstrated success in working in a team environment
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with volunteers and
community groups
Interest in supporting low-income family housing needs
Strong oral and written communication skills
Bilingual skills not required but a plus
Strong organizational and planning skills
Able to work a flexible schedule which will include some weekends and
evenings
Good office computer and internet skills
Experience with nonprofit organizations preferred, particularly Habitat
for Humanity affiliates
Experience with AmeriCorps program desired
Transportation: Car essential
Hours of work: Office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.: however, off hours and
weekends meetings will be required to fulfill responsibilities.
Salary: Commensurate with experience and educational background, paid
b-weekly
Benefits: 15 days paid time off, 5 paid holidays, and office closed between
Christmas and New Years Day
75% of health insurance for employee paid after first 90 days, Health
Insurance, 401K Plan
Physical and Mental Requirements:
Job is physically comfortable. Job prefers car as travel to various
appointments is required. Job occasionally requires stooping or bending,
some lifting such as boxes (up to 40 lbs.) or promotional displays. Must be
able to work independently and maintain a flexible schedule, some evenings
and weekends may be required.
