Job Description:
Often called the "domestic Peace Corps", the AmeriCorps Kids First
Initiative places members in human service agencies in the Southern Tier
region of upstate New York state for a 1 year term helping at risk youth and
families in need, in exchange for a modest living allowance ($11,400) and
education award ($4,725), and other benefits. You could be working at a
Youth Center or after-school program, a Domestic Violence Shelter, group
home, or anti-poverty center.

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must be 18 years old; there is no upper age limit
High School Diploma/GED
Some college coursework or background in working with young people,
psychology/sociology, human services or a similar field desired
 
Benefits:
Living Allowance/stipend: $11,400/full-time year of service for the
2008/2009 term
Educational award: $4,725/full-time one year term of service, up to two
terms.
Health Insurance and child care subsidy available to those who qualify
