Job Description:
POSITION OVERVIEW:
 The Director of NCJJ is responsible for the management, operations, and
development of the department. Currently the NCJJ staff, which includes 25
full- and part-time professionals, manages approximately 20 grants and
contracts totaling over seven million dollars.
 The Director reports directly to and works closely with the Executive
Director of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges
(NCJFCJ), actively participates on the NCJFCJ management team, and works
closely in partnership with other departmental directors within the
organization.
 The Director also works collaboratively with the Board of Fellows, its
Chair, and the NCJFCJ Board of Trustees.
 In concert with the Executive Director and Board of Trustees, the Director
of NCJJ serves as a representative of the NCJFCJ to key stakeholders and
supporters, such as other national organizations, service organizations,
funding bodies and foundations, government agencies, and the media.
 
The successful candidate for this position must be able to relocate to
Pittsburgh, PA, and possess the capability to address geographical
challenges inherent in communicating and collaborating with NCJFCJ
headquarters located in Reno, NV, and other satellite offices.
 
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
An advanced professional or academic degree is required. The position
requires demonstrable leadership, management and development skills. The
ideal candidate would also have knowledge of the juvenile justice field,
experience in overseeing and managing research projects, and the ability to
contribute to the ongoing work of the Center.

Management skills and capabilities as evidenced by:
o Administrative experience in a nonprofit or public organization in terms
of strategic planning, organizing, personnel and staffing, budgeting,
upholding fiduciary responsibilities
o Operational management experience in terms of overseeing, coordinating,
and delegating responsibility to staff to complete projects in a timely,
efficient and effective manner
o Project management experience
 
Development skills as demonstrated by:
o Excellent verbal and written communication skills to variety of audiences
o Successful marketing and fundraising experience
o Successful grantsmanship (proven track record of securing grants and
contracts from multiple sources)
o Board experience (serving on them or staffing them)
o Successful partnerships with colleagues internal and external to an
organization
 
Knowledge of the justice field, an appreciation of related research, and the
ability to contribute to the ongoing work of the Center. The ideal candidate
would also have:
o Experience in a leadership role in the juvenile or criminal justice field
o Successful experience in designing, directing, and completing
justice-related research projects or experience in using research to improve
policy or practice
 
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 Uphold quality and integrity of NCJJs work
 Articulate and promote the Centers work to those inside and outside the
organization.
 Partner and collaborate with NCJFCJ Executive Director, the management
team and other directors to promote the goals of the Council and achieve its
objectives.
 Work with the Councils Board of Trustees and the Centers Board of
Fellows.
 Represent the Council and the Center to policy makers, funders, leaders,
media and other advocates and colleagues.
 Provide quality leadership, supervision and support of NCJJ staff;
recruit, retain, lead and marshal the talents of a diverse, professional,
experienced, and creative staff, who are often themselves recognized as
leaders in their particular areas.
 Promote an open, inclusive work environment that emphasizes cooperation
and teamwork; build trust while ensuring accountability.
 Build partnerships with related organizations to support effective justice
for children, youth and families.
 Manage the day-to-day operations of the organization.
 Provide leadership in the strategic administration of a nonprofit
independent research organization.
 Target and develop the diverse resources and funding streams necessary to
financially support NCJJ operations and its projects.
