The Center for Literacy is currently
seeking to fill its Full Time Literacy
Coach position, which is available
August 1, 2008 - July 30, 2009. This
position is located at a
Responsibilities:
-Provide support
to teachers to promote strategic reading instruction,
establish supportive and positive relationships with
teachers, build trust,
and promote reflection on teaching and
learning.
-Encourage content area teacher in setting and attaining short-
and
long-term literacy goals, support teachers with the analysis of student
data
and effective use of data to guide instruction, and teach skills
necessary
for successful implementation.
-Provide informal observations
with constructive feedback.
-Allow time for questions, needs and concerns and
suggest ways to overcome
obstacles, model strategies in professional
development sessions and in
teachers classrooms,
share resources, support teacher networking and
collaboration, build
in-school capacity by partnering high performing
teachers with new/struggling
teachers, communicate with teachers and school
administrators
regularly.
-Partner with school administrators to attend School Improvement
Planning
meetings, support development and/or refinement of School Literacy
Plan to
meet goals, provide ongoing monitoring and feedback, support
program
evaluation and necessary modifications.
-Collect required
assessment data and complete reports
(initial/ongoing/final).
-Other duties as
required to support success of the program.
Qualifications:
-MA and Reading
Specialist Certification preferred.
-Excellent classroom teaching experience,
in-depth knowledge of reading
processes, acquisition, assessment and
instruction.
-Strong presentation ability, experience leading professional
development
and working with teachers to improve instructional
practices.
-Ability to observe and model instructional strategies and provide
feedback
to teachers.
-Knowledge of adolescent literacy issues and
challenges.
-Ability to adapt literacy strategy instruction to multiple
content areas.
-Excellent oral and written communication
skills.
-Excellent interpersonal relationship skills and solution
focus.
