Job Description:
BIG IMPACT, LITTlE STATE! Be a RICC VISTA! RICC AmeriCorps*VISTAs will work
to improve community and college partnerships in RI by aligning resources,
creating programs and engaging volunteers.
 
PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
RICC AmeriCorps*VISTAs will help institutions align resources in order to
better respond to pressing issues facing low-income communities. In their
capacity as Resource and Service Coordinators, VISTAs will improve the
quality of service and service-learning programs and increase the number of
students serving local communities. In 2007-2008, RICC expanded its program
to include public school based VISTA members. Having VISTAs placed at
institutions of higher education and K-12 public schools, our VISTAs are
uniquely positioned to build linkages between higher education and K-12
schools around our core program areas of service learning, civic education,
and access/equity issues of higher education. All VISTA members who are
placed at institutions of higher education and those at public schools
districts will work on some common projects and will attend common trainings
focused on issues of civic education and access to higher education. RICC
will work to develop structured projects that will encourage collaborations
between VISTAs at higher education institutions and those at public school
districts based on the range of host site applications received.
 
MEMBER ACTIVITIES:
RICC AmeriCorps*VISTAs will perform a wide variety of service activities in
support of the goals and objectives of the program. Key activities will
include: Align college and community needs and resources; Increase awareness
of and access to higher education resources; Monitor, track and assess
partnerships with community-based organizations; Expand and support student
volunteer activities through volunteer recruitment, training, materials
development, and systems-building; Expand and support service-learning
curriculum through faculty training and assistance, materials development,
infrastructure development, etc; Develop and conduct resource and needs
assessments; Develop resource inventories and databases
 
PROGRAM BENEFITS:
Each RICC AmeriCorps*VISTA is a full-time member and is eligible to receive:
- Post service choice of educational award ($4,725) or stipend ($1,200)

- Up to $550 relocation allowance

- Student loan forbearance
