Job Description:
Citizen Schools seeks a diverse cohort for its National Teaching Fellowship,
a unique, competitive, two-year professional and leadership development
program. Fellows engage in a diverse range of experiences and hands-on
learning opportunities with other young adults of varied backgrounds who
have the potential to become strong educators and community builders. The
Fellowship includes service as a Team Leader in a Citizen Schools after
school program, professional development in partnership with a community
organization, and the opportunity to enroll in a pioneering Master's in
Education program with a specialization in out-of-school time learning.

Teaching Fellows leave our program with dynamic written and verbal
communication skills, the ability to engage students and adults in powerful
programs, enhanced professional skills, and a resume that underscores their
emergence as new leaders in education reform as well as in youth and
community development.

National Teaching Fellow Roles
TEAM LEADER and COMMUNITY BUILDER at a Citizen Schools campus. As part of a
campus team, Fellows plan and lead hands-on educational activities; design
and teach curriculum; recruit students and volunteers; engage parents and
teachers; and foster partnerships with school faculty and community
organizations.

INTERN with
organization. Through a morning partnership, Fellows build their
professional skills in a nonprofit environment, bringing the resources of
their cities to urban children and their families.

SCHOLAR engaged in ongoing professional development, including the
opportunity to earn a Masters degree. Fellows receive training on teaching
and instruction, curriculum design, community development and mobilization
as well as on leadership, management and other professional skills. A
partnership with
Masters in Education.

National Teaching Fellow Compensation and Benefits
Teaching Fellows receive an annual stipend of $22,800, plus a generous
benefit package including full health care coverage, 50% dental coverage,
three weeks vacation annually, extensive training, in addition to a
transportation allowance or transit pass. If the Fellowship is awarded an
AmeriCorps renewal, select Teaching Fellows will receive a $4,725 AmeriCorps
Education Award upon successfully completing each year of service. Loan
forbearance for qualified student loans is also available through
AmeriCorps.

Qualifications:
-Relevant experience working with children and demonstrated ability to
engage children
-Understanding of and experience with hands-on, experiential,
community-based and/or project-based learning models
-Excellent writing, data analysis, and communication skills
-Proven ability to engage and organize peers and other adults to meet
program goals
-Demonstrated interest in education and community building
-Demonstrated commitment to teamwork and collaboration with diverse groups
of people; ability to and provide/receive constructive feedback
-Demonstrated time and project management skills in a fast-paced environment
-Sense of humor
-Sound judgment
-Bachelors degree required
