ANNOUNCEMENT OF AVAILABLE POSITION
POSITION: Archivist/Reference Librarian, Texas Heritage Museum
EFFECTIVE DATE: ASAP
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors Degree required in Archives Management, Library
Science, American History, Public History, or related field. Strong subject
knowledge in American Military History. Knowledge in the application of
current archival standards including electronic formats. Familiarity with
the Library of Congress cataloging system.
RESPONSIBILITY: The Texas Heritage Museums mission is to explore Texas and
Texans during wartime and how those experiences affect us today. The
successful candidate should have excellent communication and interpersonal
skills and be adept at managing multiple projects and programs within a
small staff environment. The Archivist/Reference Librarian will manage
day-to-day operations of the Historical Research Center under the direction
of the Museum Director. Responsibilities include: accessioning and
processing acquisitions in the archive and library collections; creating
finding aids for collection materials; updating acquisition logs and
preparing progress reports; helping visitors with research requests;
coordinating educational programming; and working in conjunction with the
Museum Director and staff to promote and enhance the museum.
SALARY: $23,000 24,000 annually
HILL COLLEGE: Hill College is a comprehensive, two-year community college
with campuses in Hillsboro and Cleburne. We also have off-campus
educational centers in Burleson, Clifton, Comanche Peak, Glen Rose, Iredell,
and Joshua. Enrollment for the Fall Semester of 2006 was approximately
3,500 students.
TEXAS HERITAGE MUSEUM: The Historical Research Center is nationally
recognized as a Civil War repository. Included in its holdings are
collections of maps, photographs, microfilm and vertical files containing
soldiers letters, diaries and unpublished manuscripts from all Texas wars.
It also features original art, art prints, and sculptures plus personal
items belonging to Hill College graduate Bob Bullock during his term as
Lieutenant Governor of Texas.
