Texas Watch Program Assistant
 
 
 
Texas Watch is seeking a full-time Program Assistant to provide support to
each of the organizations departments. This positing will remain open
until Friday, June 20, 2008.
 
 
 
Texas Watch is a statewide non-partisan citizens advocacy organization
based in Austin that is dedicated to strengthening protections for consumers
and ensuring fair access to the civil justice system.
 
 
 
The Program Assistant is designed to be flexible to meet Texas Watchs needs
and goals and to give the Program Assistant exposure to all facets of the
organization. The ideal candidate would have a desire to assist average
Texans interested in becoming active in the legislative process. A strong
commitment to consumer protections and open access to the civil justice
system is required.
 
 
 
The Program Assistant will be responsible for the following:
 
- Administrative
 
o Provide administrative and logistical support for all departments
 
o Ensure smooth day-to-day operation of the office
 
o Serve as a troubleshooter as technical problems arise (internet,
copier, etc.)
 
o Field calls and route to appropriate department
 
- Grassroots
 
o Assist Outreach Director with grassroots campaigns
 
o Coordinate new member mailings and list procurement
 
o Assist Outreach Director with development of online activism
campaigns and grassroots updates
 
o Maintain activist database
 
- Media/Message Delivery
 
o Prepare occasional routine press releases and press outreach
materials
 
o Maintain media database/contacts
 
o Track media clips and maintain media clips/files
 
o Coordinate media tours by preparing media lists, compiling press
packets, and handling event logistics
 
o Make media aware of press events/campaigns by submitting media
advisories and releases, following up with media by phone and e-mail
 
o Assist Outreach Director with direct online message delivery
campaigns (i.e. blogging, social networking, etc.)
 
- Manage Texas Watch Websites
 
o Update daily with relevant news articles
 
o Expand and maintain issue, action, and consumer tips pages
 
o Complete development of Texas Watch Foundation website
 
- Development/Fundraising
 
o Assist development director with funder communications and
solicitations as needed by preparing mailings, compiling vendor information,
and preparing routine funder e-mail updates
 
- Research/Policy
 
o Provide as-needed assistance on various research projects
 
 
 
Requirements:
 
Applicants must have an interest in public interest advocacy; possess strong
organizational and multi-tasking skills; have strong verbal and written
communications skills; and have excellent interpersonal skills. Applicants
must be highly motivated self-starters who are able to work independently
and in a team environment. They must also by organized and resourceful.
Finally, applicants must demonstrate a commitment to Texas Watchs mission
and goals.
 
 
 
Preferences:
 
Spanish language proficiency is strongly preferred. Understanding of HTML
and experience in basic web site maintenance are also strongly preferred.
Preference will also be given to applicants with experience in grassroots
and/or legislative advocacy.
 
 
 
Compensation:
 
Salary commensurate with experience. Benefits include health insurance,
401(k) plan, generous paid personal time off.
