Job Description:
National Public Radios (NPR) Development Division is rapidly expanding
thus
creating a variety of professional opportunities. We are currently seeking
a highly resourceful professional to play a central role in assisting NPRs
fundraising efforts. The Development Research Associate will research and
analyze information and prepare qualifying research regarding prospective
major gift donors.
The successful candidate must enjoy the challenge of uncovering key
information in a nonprofit setting. He/she must be flexible and able to
meet the multiple priorities of the position. The Associate must be a
strong communicator who works well independently and as a member of the
Development team.
Position Responsibilities
1. Data-mine internal database system, files,
periodicals, and online
resources to identify prospects.
2. Prepare in-depth prospect research profiles and prospective donor visit
briefings for presentation to senior level staff.
3. Maintain comprehensive profiles on current and potential individual and
foundation donors.
4. Assist with assigning standardized ratings to prospects based on
financial capacity and inclination.
5. Additional duties as assigned.
Candidate Requirements
1. Bachelors degree, preferably in English or
Library Science.
2. Minimum of three years experience in Development research role, with a
proven track record of preparing confidential research on major gift
prospects.
3. Extensive knowledge of standard online development research resources and
fundraising software such as LexisNexis, Wealth Engine and
Online Directory.
4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to
proofread and edit materials.
5. Time management skills.
6. Strong analytical abilities. Candidate must be able to analyze and
condense information and present it in a priority order.
7. Excellent time management and organization skills able to manage
multiple assignments, set priorities and meet short deadlines.
8. Strong interpersonal abilities - able to maintain internal relationships
with Development staff to ensure systematic and efficient solicitation of
funding sources.
9. Working knowledge of Windows-based application programs.

foundations, corporations, government agencies (CPB, NSF, NEA), and
associations, as well as charitable contributions from individuals. These
contributions total roughly 50 percent of NPR's operating budget.
