The expansion of our Development Department is creating new and exciting
opportunities for you to make a difference in NPRs future! National Public
Radio, the internationally acclaimed producer and distributor of
noncommercial news, talk, and entertainment programming, seeks an
experienced, creative professional for our Foundations and Government
Office. This person will secure foundation and government agency funding
for News and Information programming and other institutional priorities by
producing compelling written materials and successful solicitations. In
addition, the incumbent will help design fundraising strategies and
determine appropriate steps for cultivation and solicitation (i.e.
scheduling meetings and presentations, sending written proposals, etc.).

results-generating proposals and other correspondence. Were looking for a
strategic thinker and excellent writer (must have minimum of 3 years
nonprofit proposal development experience) who functions well with multiple
priorities under tight internal and external deadlines.
The candidate must
have strong relationship management skills and be proficient at presenting
information concisely and effectively both verbally and in writing. The
successful candidate will also be self-motivated and exhibit critical
thinking, planning and organization skills.
 
Position Responsibilities:
1. Interact with funders to maintain and develop relationships, and keep
abreast of changing developments in the foundation community.
2. Gather information and edit materials and prepare draft and final
proposals, correspondence and other accompanying materials, including
budgets.
3. Gather information and write interim final reports to funding sources and
other constituencies.
4. Participate in project development discussions with staff from other
divisions and develop a thorough knowledge of all program offerings.
5. Research new sources of funding as required.
6. Participate in the goal l setting process and help unit to reach goals.
7. Assist in the preparation of generic development materials.
 
Candidate Requirements:
1. Bachelors degree.
2. Minimum of 3 years related work experience in nonprofit development with
excellent and demonstrated track record in producing persuasive written
materials and successful written solicitations.
3. Knowledge of the foundation community and their interests and guidelines.
4. Thorough knowledge of rules, regulations and procedures of grant writing.
5. Excellent and demonstrate writing and editing skills, and excellent
verbal communications skills.
6. Strong organizational, analytical and interpersonal abilities.
7. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, to ensure systematic
stewardship of funders and follow through on projects.
8. Ability to coordinate multiple projects, set and meet deadlines and
manage strict timelines.
9. Must be an independent self-starter who is creative, curious and
inquisitive.
10. Computer proficiency.
 
NPR Development Division secures contributions and grants from private
foundations, corporations, government agencies (CPB, NSF, NEA), and
associations, as well as charitable contributions from individuals. These
contributions total roughly 50 percent of NPR's operating budget.
