The Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) is an internationally renowned
non-profit research institute dedicated to the study and application of
systems biology. Founded in 2000 in Seattle, Washington, ISBs goal is to
unravel the mysteries of cellular networks and identify strategies that will
usher in a new era of P4 Medicine (predictive, preventive, participatory and
personalized medicine).
The development department at ISB is currently seeking an Associate Director
of Development for Major Gifts. By working closely with the Vice President
of Development and key volunteers, the Associate Director of Major Gifts is
responsible for identifying, building, and cultivating an initial prospect
group of at least 75 individuals with gift potential in the range of
$250,000 to $1 million. The Associate Director of Major Gifts would be
expected to perform as a road warrior, travelling locally and beyond
to
meet and develop gift prospects, and maintain reports on all meetings and
interactions with these prospects. This position is responsible for
reaching or surpassing a $1 million first-year goal for achievement, a goal
increasing in large annual increments. It is also responsible for reaching
or surpassing a $500,000 first year goal for cash, a goal increasing in
large annual increments.
Requirements and qualifications:
A Bachelors degree in a related field with at least 7 years of experience
in fund development
Willingness to travel and spend considerable time working with prospects
out of the office
Good written and verbal communication skills
A basic understanding and the ability to articulate the vision, goals,
interrelationships, and research at ISB to people of varied backgrounds and
biomedical interests
Experience in working with medical/biomedical researchers and with
biomedically oriented prospects
Understanding motivations of high net worth individuals in making gift
decisions
Experience and tack in working with and staffing key volunteers
Ability to keep composure in stressful situations
Aggressive, optimistic drive to succeed
Social poise and perseverance
Willingness to work long hours; occasionally on weekends
