Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY: The AmeriCorps member will be responsible for implementing
an award-winning project
which aims to create no-idling zones around schools in Spokane
County. The
member will educate parents,
and other drivers who frequent school zones about the impacts of idling. The
project will seek pledges from
these drivers not to idle unnecessarily. The project focuses on those who
make frequent stops at schools and
involves students, parents, school faculty and staff, delivery truck
drivers, bus drivers and service providers.
The project will utilize anti-idling materials that have already been
developed and tested for their effectiveness.
Though schools are the primary audience, public and private organizations,
and cities and towns in Spokane
County may sign-up for the No Idle Zone program to encourage employees and
residents to avoid unnecessary
vehicle idling.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Recruit between 40-50 elementary and middle schools (public/private) to
participate in the program.
Schedule programs at the schools and obtain school data (teacher names/#
students per class) in order to
compile/package materials.
Gather and deliver materials to the schools based on their implementation
schedule.
Assist/provide tools for the instructor/students conducting pre and post
program data collection and
compile data.
Prepare certificates/awards for schools and distribute classroom
incentive
(usually ice cream party) to
those classes whove met their goal.
Prepare and share results with school, and prepare a final project
report,
including recommendations for
sustaining program.
When time allows, pursue opportunities for non-school audiences to
sign-up
for the program.
Complete and submit all necessary PCEI/AmeriCorps paperwork and reports
in
a timely manner.
Attend and complete all PCEI/AmeriCorps training and service requirements
including orientation,
trainings, and national service days.
Wear a PCEI uniform and/or appropriate identifiers and required safety
gear while performing service or
attending official events.
