Earthjustice is the leading, national, nonprofit law firm for the

clients, large and small. Earthjustice works through the courts to safeguard
public lands, national forests, parks, and wilderness areas; to reduce air
and water pollution; to prevent toxic contamination; and to preserve
endangered species and wildlife habitat.
 
Earthjustice is hiring an Application Support Specialist. The ideal
candidate will have solid knowledge of standard business applications, with
particular expertise in Microsoft Office products and Adobe Acrobat.
Experience supporting the creation and handling of legal documents is
preferred. The job duties include providing computer and application
support to staff at Earthjustices ten locations; developing documentation
(how-tos) and publishing them to a support portal; and providing targeted
training and orientation to staff, in order to insure the success of new IT
initiatives. This position reports to the Information Technology Director
and is located in our Washington D.C. office. Note that the rest of the
Earthjustice IT staff works out of the Oakland and Seattle offices. One
goal for this position is to provide better support to our East Coast
locations.
 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Support
 
 Provides direct support to Attorneys, legal assistants and others in the
preparation, management and distribution of legal document .
 Provides training and support for the primary Earthjustice office
applications, such as Word, Excel, Adobe, Outlook, Timeslips, LawBase and
PowerPoint.
 Provides general IT support as needed.
 
Documentation
 
 Develops technical documentation, such as how-tos, cheat sheets and
manuals for common IT technology functions.
 Manages the IT Support Portal.
 
Development
 
 Participates in user group development and management for new technology
rollouts; documents and trains on new applications; develops web sites in
support of new applications and technology initiatives..
 Develops sites and forms for the Earthjustice portal (Terranet 2).
 
 
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
 
 Outstanding organizational skills
 Excellent verbal and written communication skills
 Outstanding interpersonal skills
 Strong understanding of Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and legal support
technology
 Strong understanding of litigation and legal technology
 Ability to work under pressure and to find creative solutions to difficult
problems
 Flexibility to work as a team and also independently with little
supervision
 Ability to handle a diverse workload and multi-task as needed
 1-2 years experience in IT related support position
 Some weekend and off hour work required
 Extended hour support on call work required
 Visits regional offices as needed to deploy systems/train users/resolve
issues
 Ability to lift heavy equipment up to 50lbs
