Grants Associate
RESULTS Educational Fund (REF), a non-profit citizens advocacy organization
dedicated to generating the public and political will to end hunger and the
worst aspects of poverty, is seeking a Grants Associate to provide grants
management assistance for REFs multi-country, multi-partner advocacy
projects, focused primarily on health and education. This is a full-time
support position and is based in Washington, DC.
 
This is a great opportunity for someone to develop and expand skills in
supporting both DC based operations and an international network of
sub-grantees in their financial and programmatic reporting and application
processes. The Grants Associate will report to the Grants Manager and will
work closely with other finance and program staff.
 
Primary Roles and Responsibilities
Financial/Operational
 Track and review financial transactions (credit cards, invoices, expense
reimbursements) and ensure that expenses are attributed to the appropriate
grant and grant category prior to processing
 Track and document project expenditures against budget allocations for
monthly reports for different grants
 Work with Grants Manager to review partner financial reports and provide
feedback and suggestions to partners
 Ensure that contracts for consultants and sub-grantees are finalized,
tracked, and filed within Grants and Finance offices
 
Sub-grantee support
 Assist Grants Manager in tracking and reviewing sub-grantee planning and
reporting documentation
 Develop document templates to be used for reporting
 Initiate and track wire transfers for monthly consultant payments and term
budgets for partner organizations
 Respond to partner requests for information on reporting and deadlines,
and provide instructions as needed on how to use forms (budget, monitoring
and evaluation, etc)
 Assist in creating budgets for occasional partner activities supported by
REF
 With Grants Manager, create strategies for partner reporting on financial
and programmatic matters
 Act as logistic support to set partner meetings, assist in staff travel
planning and organize meetings in DC offices
 Work with Grants Manager to support the M&E reporting process, including
reviewing templates with partners, seeking partner feedback and making
changes to reporting forms and instructions
 
Writing/Editing
 Review and draft contracts for partners, consultants, etc. with support
from legal advisors and Grants Manager
 Contribute to donor report writing and editing; collecting information
 Assist in drafting grant proposals and developing budget requests for
prospective grant projects
 Work with Grants Manager to ensure that grant reports and activities are
in line with legal restrictions around lobbying
 Write instructions for sub-grantee guidelines
 
Primary Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications
 Bachelors Degree and at least 1 years work experience
 Organizational skills and attention to detail (as pertains to financial
tracking and report/contract review)
 Ability to track budgets, create processes and build partner capacity
 Knowledge of contractual agreements and lobbying restrictions on 501(c)(3)
organizations
 Excellent writing and editing skill
 Good interpersonal skills, including a sense of humor
 Sensitivity to cultural differences and varied reactions and needs;
ability to communicate precise information to a wide range of cultural
backgrounds
 Knowledge of/interest in advocacy campaigns, global health and
international affairs.
 Ability to motivate self and others
 Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
