Job Description:
The communications manager is responsible for the implementation of
information and promotional strategies which advance NASAA advocacy and
policy positions; raise the visibility of NASAA and its member agencies
among targeted audiences; promote NASAAs value toand facilitate
communications amongits member agencies; and create markets for NASAAs
information, products and services. The communications manager provides
editorial and production oversight for all NASAA publications, information
releases and electronic communicationsincluding the NASAA website.
 
Core Responsibilities
 
Newsletters, Alerts, Special Publications
 Coordinate submissions
 Collect, edit and organize information submitted for routine
communications
 Write introductory and/or connective pieces as required
 Manage collection and use of photos, artwork, design, etc.
Coordinate review of draft communications prior to publication
 Manage distribution and review statistical information (hits,
click-throughs, etc.)
 Manage all communications and photo archives
 Coordinate submissions
 
Web Site Management
 Manage web page layout, design and navigation
 Create, maintain and monitor communication networks that facilitate
member-NASAA and member-member exchange
 Maintain online databases
 Manage distribution of new content alerts to targeted audiences
 Maintain web use statistics
 
Conference, Webinars, Workshops, Special Events
 Coordinate production and distribution of promotional materials
 Manage integration of conference design(s) as required
 Manage design, content development and production of conference programs
and related materials
 
Press, Public and Member Relations
 Develop and maintain comprehensive press/media list(s)
 Coordinate responses to press/media inquiries
 Draft and distribute Press Releases
 Implement communications strategies promoting the work of state arts
agencies and the value of public sector arts support
 Implement communications strategies to support marketing, fundraising and
earned income activities.
 
Additional Responsibilities
 Maintain production schedules
 Negotiate with contractors for various printing, production, web
development, design, writing and editorial services
 Develop and maintain relationships with freelance editors and writers
 Develop and manage appropriate communications and publications budgets.
 Organize and maintain photo/slide database
 Assemble and maintain clippings files and databases
 
 
Authority and Key Working Relationships
The communications manager reports to the chief operating officer. The
manager works closely with and is guided by the chief staff officers in the
implementation of communications activities. The manager may supervise staff
or contractual employees charged with writing, editing, design and website
management.
 
Requirements
Degree in Communications or related field
Strong verbal and written communications skills
Copy editing and proofreading experience
Attention to detail critical
Experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Presentation
Software
Familiarity with the variety of Web interactivity tools and applications
Familiarity and experience with online newsletter design and distribution
applications
HTML programming and experience with Web Development tools a plus.
Previous experience working in a member- or client-focused environment
