Job Description:
Position Title: Early Childhood Teacher
Program: Early Childhood
Primary Purpose of the Job:
To provide a safe, healthy and nurturing environment for the children that
offers opportunities for learning and development in the different areas
through the implementation of a developmentally appropriate high quality
program.
Essential Duties:
Families:
1. To welcome the children and families as they come in during the arrival
period in the morning.
2. To maintain on-going communication with parents and families
3. To build and maintain a trusting relationship with the children and their
families.
4. To keep the families informed of the daily activities of the children and
program happenings through daily child report, incident or accident reports,
and program calendars.
Health and safety:
5. To monitor the health, safety, physical and emotional welfare of the
children when they arrive. To ensure their well-being at all times, being
alert to their strengths and needs as individuals and as a group.
6. To keep the children under adult supervision at all times.
7. To be alert to changes in behavior, clothing (by checking if they need to
change it, if it is appropriate to the weather outside, if the shoelaces are
tied,etc.) and physical appearance (by checking if their noses need to be
wiped, if their hands or faces need to be washed, etc.) throughout the day.
8. To assist the children during the period of breakfast, lunch and snack,
by encouraging them to eat, helping them with utensils and foods, promoting
communication among them, and encouraging appropriate table manners.
9. To help the children rest and monitor their sleep during the period of
naptime.
10. To maintain the home-base clean, free of hazards, with the materials in
order, and aesthetically pleasing
11. To report to the Lead teacher and/or coordinator any suspicion of
external or internal child abuse or neglect immediately after the incident
occurred.
12. To be familiar and enforce the centers policies regarding illness,
schedules and any other policies as per ECE policies and procedures
Curriculum:
13. As part of the team. The teacher participates actively in the planning,
preparation, and implementation of the curriculum activities.
14. To submit the weekly and monthly plans to the lead teacher for approval
on the set schedules.
15. To help the children get settled in and involve them in an activity of
their choice.
16. Along with the other teachers in the group, responsible for the
organization of the learning areas including the setup of the environment,
the planning and implementation of the activities and the preparation of
materials needed.
17. To assist children in engaging in the activities and rotate from one
area to the next. To ease the transitions from one period to the next by
alerting the children about what will come next
18. To create and organize activities that will stimulate the growth of the
children in the areas of physical, cognitive, language, social, and
emotional development, as well as in the areas of creative expression and
movement, self help skills, independence, pro-social behavior, and
self-regulation.
19. To display childs work in a neat and respectful manner.
20. To take the group to the bathroom before and after breakfast,
fieldtrips, lunch, naptime, and snack. To emphasize the appropriate
behaviors through educating the group about hygiene habits such as hand
washing procedures, flushing, and the use of toilet paper
21. To organize and participate in fieldtrips and ensure that the families
sign the fieldtrip permission form. To submit the groups forms to the Lead
teacher once they are completed.
22. To conduct individual parent-teacher conferences twice a year.
Materials prepared for and discussed during the conferences include: the
developmental checklist, the plan for individualizing, and the regular
observations records of the children throughout the semester.
23. To report to the Lead teacher any special needs or concerns about the
children
24. To attend all regularly scheduled team planning and evaluation meetings
and staff
development sessions.
25. To be familiar with and abide by the personnel policies and the program
procedures specified in the employment manual and the staff
handbook.
Other Duties:
1. To check shared areas such as bathroom, playgrounds, and van for health
and safety hazards.
2. To ensure that families sign the daily log when the children are dropped
off and picked up.
3. To complete the records for daily attendance of children.
4. To accompany the child when he/she is being picked up late, even after
the work day is over.
5. To submit leave requests to the Lead Teacher for approval before the
absence.
6. To support the program by completing other duties as assigned by the
Coordinator of the program or the Lead Educator of the group.

Required Experience:
1. Two or more years of experience in the care and education of young
children in a group care setting.
Required Education:
1. A valid Child Development Associate credential or higher education degree
in early childhood or early childhood education
