Job Title: Climate Protection Coordinator

Job Description:
Position Summary: This 11-month AmeriCorps position offers an opportunity for a motivated individual to help further develop programs and presentations that encourages substantiate changes in the communitys carbon footprint. The climate protection program would include assisting the ERC with its Co2mmit to Take Action program that helps individuals reduce their carbon footprint, assisting local governments in assessing and crafting an action plan for their carbon emissions and assisting with local recycling outreach efforts.

General Responsibilities:
 This member will work with the ERCs Executive Director and Program Coordinator to carry out further climate change and recycling efforts, including but not limited to :
 Assist with outreach and implementation of the CO2mmit to Take Action climate change program;
 Assist local government partners conduct an inventory of carbon emissions according to the methodology established in ICLEIs Cities for Climate Protection program (http://www.iclei.org/index.php?id=1118);
 America Recycles Day (November 15);
 Help coordinate the recycling efforts at special events in the summer, including the ERCs waste-free events;
 Increase community volunteers in local recycling efforts;

Qualifications:
 Enjoy and have experience in working with a variety of people;
 Possess qualitative skills in assess and interpreting data;
 Possess an understanding of environmental and recycling issues;
 Be able to work independently and as part of an overall staff team;
 Show an ability to conduct service learning-projects;
 Be comfortable working with the public, educators, program leaders and other community groups;
 Show an ability to develop and implement environmental presentations;
 Be organized and able to speak and write effectively;
 Possess a valid drivers license;
 Be reliable, enthusiastic and personable in nature;
 Possess a strong willingness to challenge oneself and contribute to the spirit of community volunteerism.

Requirements:
 Ability to commit to the full term of service for which they are applying.
 18 years of age or older, by completion of the program
 U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident.
 Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent, or commit to earning one prior to receiving an education award.
 Desire to serve with people to promote education, environmental stewardship and an ethic of service.
 Communicate and interact in a positive, professional manner with various populations such as: project partner(s), colleagues, community volunteers, students and the general public.
 Serve effectively within a team
 Attend and travel to meetings in various parts of the region.
 Submit to a criminal history background check.
 Regular and reliable attendance.

 Able to work outdoors in inclement weather at extreme temperatures
 Able to lift 30 lbs
 Ability to work in rough and woody terrain
 Public speaking, potentially

Full-time Member (1700/hr; 11 months) Benefits Include:
 A taxable, monthly living stipend (before taxes, $11,100 or $5,876 for serving entire term of service).
 Upon successful completion of a full term of service, eligible members receive an education award of $4,725 or $2,362.50. The education award can be used to repay qualified student loans, for further education in an accredited institution of higher learning, vocational, or for trade schools. The education award is taxed in the year that it is used.
 Loan forbearance (after successful completion of a term of service, AmeriCorps will pay the accrued interest on qualified loans, which is taxable).
 Basic medical insurance (covers members only, not dependants; vision and dental not included).
 Childcare allowance for those who qualify.
 Housing assistance is available.
