Job Description:
Greetings from the National Young Scholars Program! Are you dedicated to educating and inspiring high-achieving elementary students? Are you looking for a fun and rewarding way to spend your summer? If so, we are excited to inform you of summer positions with NYSP! We encourage you to explore the available opportunities that are sure to provide many rewarding and satisfying experiences!
The National Young Scholars Program (NYSP) is an experiential education program sponsored by the National Center for Early Academic Excellence (NCEAE), exclusively developed for high-achieving 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade scholars. Participating scholars are teacher/mentor nominated based on their superior academic performance and leadership potential. Our scholars have the opportunity to participate in a unique experience created specifically for them. Scholars come to the program for six (6) days where they study a self-selected Discovery strand in conjunction with a Leadership strand. Currently, NYSP offers ten different Discovery strands covering the topics of: Forensics, Advanced Forensics, Flight, Mythology, Literature, Environment, Architecture, Theater, Anatomy and Health for the Human Body and Entrepreneurship.
Our program, which was developed by a former classroom teacher, elementary school principal, and college professor, began two years ago in the summer of 2005 at one location in Virginia. We are rapidly expanding and in the summer of 2007, we will host programs at nine (9) different locations - Washington, DC, North Carolina, New York, Illinois, California (three sites), and Texas (two sites)! We will have an estimated 4,100 scholars attending and are looking to hire a large summer staff. The program is residential; room and board ARE provided for each session. Out-of-state applicants are encouraged to apply. Also, feel free to share this announcement with any individuals who you feel would be qualified.
There are a variety of positions available. We are seeking highly motivated and energetic people who love working with this age group. Ideal candidates will have experience working with elementary aged children, preferably in educational settings. We are also seeking those with backgrounds in psychology or counseling. Not all positions require a four-year degree; please see job descriptions for more details.
We hope you consider joining the NYSP Team!
